Irish Varsity handed a loss to Leyden Eagles 4 - 1 at Ice Valley Centre on Sunday. Neither team managed to put points on the board in the first period. In the second period, the offenses finally got going when Irish Varsity outscored their opponents by one goal and took the lead. It would prove to be too much for Leyden Eagles. In the final period Irish Varsity scored two unanswered goals padding its lead and winning the game.
In the first period, paving the way for Leyden Eagles, Forward Player got the puck in the goal with an assist from Forward Player, with 10:17 left on the clock. In the second period, returning fire, Irish Varsity's Cam Mullady got the puck in the goal with assists from Andrew Andersen and Zeb Rashenkas with 1:26 left in the period, to tie the game. Irish Varsity pierced the defense when Derien Denoyer got a goal with 1:00 left in the period. Zeb Rashenkas and Andrew Andersen got the assists on the goal, to take the lead 2 to 1. Irish Varsity never looked back. In the third period, adding another score for Irish Varsity, Zeb Rashenkas got the puck in the goal with an assist from Andrew Andersen, with 4:39 left in the period, to pull further ahead. Looking at the empty net, Irish Varsity's Garrett Kremer put the biscuit over the goal line without any assistance with 0:16 left in the period, expanding their lead.
Zeb Rashenkas made one goal for Irish Varsity as well as two assists. Cam Mullady got one goal for Irish Varsity and also had one assist. Derien Denoyer and Garrett Kremer each contributed one goal for Irish Varsity. Andrew Andersen earned two assists.
Forward Player made one goal for Leyden Eagles and also had one assist.
Racking up saves in the box, Irish Varsity's Blake Clatterbuck made 16 saves to earn the win. Leyden Eagles's Goalie Player stopped 28 shots to get the loss.
Irish Varsity went 1-for-5 on power plays. Leyden Eagles was 0-for-2.
Irish Varsity ended their streak of two losing games and improved to a record of 8 wins and 9 losses. Leyden Eagles suffered their first loss and ended the game with a record of 1-1.
